‘RHYTHM METHOD’ PROVES TO BE A WEIGHT LOSS BONANZA

Weight loss and exercise have long been promoted as the magic elixir for a sustained and

healthy lifestyle.

The problem for many people is that they usually love the weight loss but loathe the

exercise.   It often seems difficult to achieve a balance.  Ultimately they fail at both.

Now two very different organisations have combined to create ‘Diet & Dance’, a novel

approach that will have the weight-challenged dancing in the street.

Cuban Dance Academy, one of Melbourne’s leading Latin dance schools and social

venues has joined forces with weight loss specialist, Dr Leon Massage, medical director

of the BMI Weight Loss & Wellness Clinic and founder of the highly successful BMI

Weight Loss Program.

CDA’s director, Christina Monneron, said she came up with the idea after consulting Dr

Massage for her own weight issues.

“I told him that if he can help me to lose weight I’ll teach him to salsa!” Ms Monneron

said.

“After less than a week I was ready to make good on my offer.”

Ms Monneron said the six week course was developed to provide adults with an

opportunity to learn about responsible weight loss using dance as part of the mix.

The first Diet & Dance session will begin on Wednesday, February 11th 2009 at

1.00pm.  Each session will run for 1.5 hours. It will be hosted at the Cuban Dance

Academy studio at 1/269 Johnston Street, Abbotsford.

The special discount price for the first intake is $199.  Future courses will incur a charge

of $249.  The class size will be capped at 25 people.

“I’ve had many students over the years who dance because they find other forms of

exercise onerous or formulaic,” Ms Monneron said “And dancing is a lot more fun than

sweating at a gym or swimming laps in a pool!”

“It is really exciting that we can make it part of a fantastic weight loss program.”

Dr Massage said he supported the idea, as many overweight people find the thought of

exercise painful and boring, where it should be fun and exciting.

“There is a misconception that you have to exercise for 30 to 40 minutes continuously to

derive any sort of benefit,” Dr Massage said.  “In fact, you can break exercise into

shorter sessions and still get the metabolic benefits.

“Even small increases in physical activity create a decreased risk of developing many

chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and depression.”

Each session will begin with a confidential weigh-in and an educational and motivational

talk. This will be followed by the dance lesson.

By the end of the six weeks, Ms Monneron and Dr Massage expect participants to be

fitter, leaner, happier and healthier.

“My classes will be structured in a way to satisfy those who’ve never danced before, and

still meet the needs of those who have some experience,” Ms Monneron said.

“Most of all, we want them to have fun.”

The BMI Weight Loss Program is a medically-supervised and scientifically-proven weight

loss program that is the successful culmination of many years of medical research.  Dr

Massage has been a specialist in the field for more than 20 years.
