AUSTRALIA TO HOST THE FIRST PREMIERE OF

BAZ LUHRMANN'S MOVIE EPIC "AUSTRALIA”

Today, Twentieth Century Fox Film Distributors announced that the Australian premiere of Baz Luhrmann’s epic

Australia will take place on Tuesday 18th November in the film’s first shooting location, Sydney, with special

screenings in shoot locations Darwin & Bowen on the same evening.

In Sydney, Greater Union, George St will host a star studded event which promises to be a night to remember to

celebrate this much anticipated film. The leading stars Academy Award winning actress Nicole Kidman and Tony

award winning actor Hugh Jackman along with Golden Globe winning writer, producer, director, Baz Luhrmann &

two-time Academy Award winning production and costume designer Catherine Martin will grace the red carpet,

along with a host of Australian legends of stage, screen and sport. Young indigenous actor Brandon Walters, who

makes his feature film debut, will also attend.

Queensland and the Northern Territory will have their own touch of Hollywood when Darwin’s special screening is

held at Birch Carroll & Coyle in the city and Bowen hosts their event at the Summergarden Cinemas, the same

cinema attended by Luhrmann and his team to view rushes throughout filming.

Northern Territory Chief Minister, Paul Henderson, welcomed the news, saying "it is great that Darwin is being

recognised by having an important role in the premiere of the film."   "Darwin and the Northern Territory play an

important role in the movie which will provide a great boost for the Northern Territory Tourism industry" the Chief

Minister said.

Michael Brunker, Mayor of Whitsunday Regional Council said “We’re thrilled to be part of the launch of the movie,

alongside Sydney and Darwin, and I’m sure it will be an unforgettable night for the people of Bowen”.

With the movie launching in cinemas across the country on 26th November, all Australians will be able to experience

the magic this film brings to the big screen.

Marcos Oliveira, Managing Director of 20th Century Fox Australia, said “With the huge anticipation for this film, these

events will be the first chance for people to discover what promises to be Baz’s next cinematic masterpiece. We are

working with local authorities to ensure fans can be part of a wonderful opening experience.”

There will be a separate celebration of the film in the fourth shooting location, Kununurra, East Kimberley, WA, with

details to be announced shortly.

AUSTRALIA is an epic and romantic action adventure, set in this country on the explosive brink of World War II. In it,

an English aristocrat (NICOLE KIDMAN) travels to the faraway continent she meets rough-hewn local (Hugh

Jackman) and an enchanting mixed-race Aboriginal child (Brandon Walters). This unlikely trio join forces to save the

land she inherited and embark upon a transforming journey across hundreds of miles of the world’s most beautiful

yet unforgiving terrain, only to face the bombing of the city of Darwin by the Japanese forces that attacked Pearl

Harbor. With his new film, director Baz Luhrmann is painting on a vast canvas, creating a cinematic experience that

brings together romance, drama, adventure and spectacle.
