Burn After Reading Quickflix's top rental of 2009

Burn After Reading was the most popular title of 2009 according to members of the online DVD rental company Quickflix. The Coen Brothers' offbeat comedy was watched by Quickflix members more than any other film in the past twelve months. It was followed closely by Ridley Scott's Body of Lies and the Steve Carrell-starring spy movie Get Smart. Will Smith's superhero vehicle Hancock narrowly pipped the teen vampire sensation Twilight to fill out the top five.

Box-office behemoths Iron Man, The Dark Knight and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull proved to be just as popular on DVD as they did in cinemas. They filled out the remainder of the top 10 alongside the Ben Stiller Hollywood-satire Tropic Thunder and the chick-flick extravaganza He's Just Not That Into You.

The newest film to crack the top 25 most rented titles was Ron Howard's 2009 hit Angels and Demons, which was the 12th most popular rental of the year. Interestingly, the majority of the list comprised of Academy Award recognised pictures such as Juno, Slumdog Millionaire, No Country for Old Men, Atonement and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. WALL-E was the most popular animated title of the year, while rounding out the top 25 was the most popular Australian film of the year, the aptly titled Australia.

The most popular rental in Quickflix's history is Martin Scorcese's The Departed, followed by The Last King of Scotland, Dj Vu, The Pursuit of Happyness and Shooter.
