PARKROAR - A ROARING SUCCESS

Take a moment. Imagine loosening your tie or kicking off those

uncomfortably stylish heels and…swinging on the monkey bars.

Overcoming the fear of danger, harnessing the power of

concentration, moving to any given place without physical

constraint and the ultimate feeling of freedom are all part of the

allure of Parkour.

With the aim of negotiating through the natural

and urban landscape in a fluid and cat-like manner whilst

overcoming obstacles, this worldwide phenomenon is literally taking

off in leaps and bounds right here in Australia.

Introducing Parkroar, an innovative

project fusing multimedia and

movement while promoting physical and mental strength as well as

encouraging a spirit of humility and courage. Created by Australia’s

foremost Parkour practitioner, Ali Kadhim, the Parkroar project is

being

made possible by the Emerging Producers in Community

(EPIC) Grant from the Australia Council together with the support of

the Information and Cultural Exchange (ICE).

"I passionately believe in Parkour as an art form, as a method of

expression. It has

some aspects of martial arts, breakdancing,

gymnastics and

skateboarding all thrown into the art. There is no

limit to the art form, the only limit is in your mind," said Ali Kadhim,

creator of Parkroar.

Over the past year, this highly motivated and talented 21-year-old

digital media and martial artist has dedicated his time to training

young people in the art of Parkour through a series of workshops in

Western Sydney, while filming the process as well as mapping their

landscape and movements online.

"We have had an amazing response to the Parkroar project with

everyone involved learning to respect their environment, their

bodies and the people they train with. We learn to grow together,

express ourselves and help each other find ways to overcome new

obstacles. At the same time we are all getting fit, making our bodies

stronger and building skills and courage to apply to our daily lives,"

said Ali.

To celebrate the launch of Parkroar, ICE is holding an exciting FREE

event on Saturday 23rd August, 2008 from 2-4pm at Casula

Powerhouse. With a unique synthesis of Parkour, multimedia and a

live performance along with special guest legendary stuntman Grant

Page, it is set to be an awesome event!

The official Parkroar website will also be unveiled at the launch

event and it will feature the videos and photos created during the

project as well as information about future Parkour workshops. To

check out all the “take your breath away” action of the Parkroar

project and to discover how you can relive the freedom and

fearlessness of those days on the jungle gym, jump onto

www.parkroar.com from 23rd August, 2008.
