SPECIAL GUESTS TO ATTEND SYDNEY’S 

GREEK FILM FESTIVAL OFFICIAL LAUNCH


9-20 SEPTEMBER AT PALACE NORTON STREET CINEMAS, Leichhardt

The 16th Annual Greek Film Festival of Sydney, which opens on Wednesday

September will be officially launched by The Hon. Virginia Judge,

Minister for Fair Trading, Minister for Citizenship, and Minister Assisting the

Premier on the Arts. 

Joining the Minister

on the

list of special guests is Australian actress Zoe

Carides who stars in the short film Bombshell

directed by Kim Farrant and

screened in this year’s line-up of Award Winning Films, and one of Australia’s

best loved comedian’s and actors, George Kapiniaris


Opening with Christine Crokos’ romantic comedy Bang Bang Wedding and

starring Australia’s own Alex Dimitriades, the two-week festival will take place

at Palace Norton Street Cinemas and will feature an extraordinary assortment

of genres to accommodate all tastes. 


Festival highlights include the winner of the Un Certain Regard Award at the

2009 Cannes Film Festival, Yorgos Lanthimos’ Dogtooth and the winner of

numerous awards (including Audience Award and FIPRESCI Prize) at the

International Thessaloniki Film Festival Spiros Stathoulopoulos’ PVC-1.


Other featured films include Panos Karkanevatos’ Well Kept Secrets:

Athanasia, which won the critics’ FIPRESCI Prize at last year’s Thessaloniki

Film Festival and Strella: A Womans Way which pushes the boundaries in

it’s depiction of an extraordinary and spell binding relationship in the glowing

nights of Athens.
