The Melbourne Italian Festival & Italian Connection Rally
Italian singing sensation Patrizio Buanne will join thousands of Italian residents, Melburnians
and other visitors in celebrating the 2008 Melbourne Italian Festival.
On Sunday 25 May the Lord Mayor John So will join Mr Buanne at Piazza Italia, Lygon Street,
to enjoy a myriad of activities as part of the celebrations.
The City of Melbourne is delighted to be a sponsor of the Melbourne Italian Festival, and I am
looking forward to presenting the trophy to the winner of the Italian Connection Rally on Sunday
afternoon at Piazza Italia, The Lord Mayor said.
A cultural programme of events was established by the Italian community in 1978 in
Melbourne and since then every major capital city in Australia has followed.
The Melbourne Italian Festival will be running between the 22 May to 8 June and a real
highlight will be the official arrival of the Italian Connection rally at Piazza Italia in Carlton on
Sunday the 25 May between 2-5pm, having left Sydney two days earlier.
Carl Jetter, Chair of the Events Committee continued:
Italians are world renowned for being
passionate about many things especially their amazing cars - so if you want to see Ferraris,
Fiats, Alfa Romeos and Lambourginis make sure you come along on Sunday.
In addition, there will be other entertainment such as rides, face painting, plenty of Italian food
and refreshments and the Lord Mayor will be joined by the Italian, baritone singing sensation
Patrizio Buanne, famous for his traditional, classic, Italian songs.
