The Turkish Cultural Connections Festival
40th Anniversary celebrations to be held in Melbourne
The City of Melbourne is a proud sponsor of the Turkish Cultural Connections Festival, which
will take place at Melbournes Queen Victoria Market on Sunday 13 April from 11am to 4pm.
The 2008 Festival will honour the 40th anniversary of the signing of the bilateral agreement
between the governments of Australia and Turkey.
Lord Mayor John So said the City of Melbourne was delighted to support the event.
The Turkish community continue to play major roles within Melbourne society and help to
make our city one of the most cosmopolitan places to live in the world.
Our Turkish residents bring a lasting, valuable contribution to Melbourne and we are delighted
that fellow Melburnians will be able to celebrate their 40th anniversary in the heart of the city,
the Lord Mayor said.
Our congratulations to the Turkish community in this their 40th
anniversary year. More than
30,000 Turkish men, women and children have settled in Melbourne and have certainly helped
to enrich our society.
The
festival will include a packed program of live performances and folk dancing, food and
market stalls, live music and DJs, guest speakers and children's entertainment.
