WHAT’S ON ALERT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Get ready… Trop Jr is back with plenty of action

‘squeezed’ into one day!

Sunday 22 February 2009

Back for a second year, The Australian Children’s Television Foundation (ACTF) is proud to

present

Trop Jr, the world’s largest short film festival

– for kids, by kids.  On Sunday 22

February, the top 12 films selected in this short film competition for under 15’s will premiere

in festival screenings in selected locations across Australia, with the winner to be announced

at the Domain in Sydney. This year the Trop Jr Signature Item (TSI) is ‘Squeeze – look

out for the clever ways in which these young filmmakers incorporate ‘Squeeze’ into their

films.

ACTF CEO Jenny Buckland said, “The ACTF is thrilled by the way kids have embraced the

Trop Jr challenge this year.  With double the number of entries from last year, and the

finalists hailing from four states and ranging in age from 10 to 15 years, we can’t wait to see

the 12 short films that will be competing for the main prize on the 22nd of February.”

Trop Jr is a free, public event perfect for kids, friends and families of all ages.  It combines

a great picnic setting (The Domain) with loads of fun activities and of course – movie

A very special

group of Trop Jr judges will be in attendance to view the films and choose

First and Second Prize Winners to be announced at the end of the show.    Competition

is

expected to be tough with double the number of entries received this year.

The Trop Jr show will once again be hosted by the gorgeous MAX presenter Yumi Stynes.

Jump Rope for Heart will give a special demonstration, and Cartoon Network has a raft of

games and activities planned.

Bounce out of the house and straight onto Cartoon Network’s brand new Ben 10 inflatable

obstacle course.  There are games galore too, from giant Boomerang  Connect Four to

Cartoon Network Snakes and Ladders for the little ones.  And let’s not forget, Boomerang’s

Scooby Doo and Ben 10 will be on site, dispensing free cuddles and high fives for all!

Pre-Order Trop Jr Picnic Hampers are offered through Kitchen Catering and are suitable

for families, or for two, with just the right amount of great Aussie nibbles to keep festival-

your hamper at the festival (Sydney venues only).  Otherwise, visit our catering stands onsite

About Trop Jr

The Australian Children’s Television Foundation joined forces with Tropfest in 2008 to present the inaugural Trop

Jr: The World’s Largest Short Film Festival – for Kids! By Kids!

Brought to you by the team behind Movie Extra Tropfest, Trop Jr is a short film competition and outdoor festival

for kids 15 years and younger.  Trop Jr will take place during the afternoon, before the main Movie Extra Tropfest

festival, on a separate site in Sydney’s Domain.

Kids can enter Trop Jr individually or as a group, and multiple entries are permitted.  Entry is free. Film formats

can include live action, animation and documentaries.  However, like Tropfest, each film must not exceed 7

minutes and must include the Trop Jr Signature Item (TSI) which changes each year.  The 2009 TSI is

‘Squeeze’.

More information on Trop Jr is available on the website www.tropjr.com. You can also find festival details,

screening venues and regular updates on all things Trop.

ACTF: Presenting Partner of Trop Jr

The Australian Children’s Television Foundation (ACTF) is committed to providing Australian children with

entertaining media made especially for them, which makes an enduring contribution to their cultural and

educational experience.  We believe that children deserve interactive experiences that encourage them to

engage with content, with each other and the world around them and we recognize that many children are

accomplished creators of their own media.  By presenting Trop Jr, the ACTF is providing children with a platform

to showcase their creativity and talent, and to contribute their own stories “for kids, by kids”.

Cartoon Network and Boomerang: Official Broadcast Partners of Trop Jr

Cartoon Network and Boomerang channels, two of the most popular entertainment channels among kids in

Australia, are the official broadcaster partners of Trop Jr.  Cartoon Network and Boomerang are committed to

being locally-relevant to kids in the region, engaging viewers and making a difference in their lives in a fun and

lighthearted fashion. This partnership with Trop Jr is one of the fantastic ways in which they are bringing the

channels to life in Australia,

Cartoon Network and Boomerang are part of Turner Entertainment Networks Asia, Inc. (TENA), a wholly-owned

subsidiary of Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. (TBS).  Established in 1994, TENA distributes Cartoon Network,

TCM Turner Classic Movies, POGO and Boomerang television entertainment services, as well as other

associated mobile and interactive entertainment content, in the Asia Pacific region. With these established

entertainment brands, Turner continues to be a leader in the Asian television marketplace.

Turner Broadcasting System Inc., a Time Warner company, is a major producer of news and entertainment

product around the world and the leading provider of programming for the basic cable industry.
