ACT Makes Its Mark On Australia's Culinary Map

Outstanding Canberra Turkish restaurant has made it onto the prestigious
100 Greatest Australian Gourmet Experiences list, published by Australian
Traveller Magazine today.

Located in a grand old government building, Ottoman Cuisine is a shining jewel in Canberra's culinary crown.

Also in the region, Grazing restaurant at Gundaroo made it onto the list.

In the wine stakes, Murrumbateman's Clonakilla Shiraz Viognier was a giant killer.

The local drop was voted the top wine from a selection of six "signature Aussie wines", including worldrenowned Penfold's Grange and Henschke's Hill of Grace. The local wine retails for seven times less than its more well-known rivals.

Australian Traveller editor Greg Barton says: "Canberra is a city that is really gaining ground as a foodie destination. With attractions like the Old Bus Depot Markets and personalities like the team from Capital Wines, it's clear that Canberra is finding its feet. Ottoman Cuisine should be credited with leading the way in terms of putting Canberra on the map."

Methodology
A panel of food experts including Matt Moran, Jacques Reymond, Maggie Beer, Simon Johnson, Matthew Evans, Alla Wolf-Tasker and Michael Ryan decided the Top 100 Gourmet Experiences. The panellists were presented with a shortlist of 300 experiences and asked: "On a scale of 1-10, how strongly would you like to experience the nomination and/or would you advise a friend to experience it?" The answers were tabulated and the Top 100 Gourmet Experiences revealed.
