Bartenders get ready to beat world’s best

island2island will be hosting the bi-annual Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge -

Australian Final on November 8 and the contestants are getting ready to crush,

shake and stir their way to the World Championships.

The final five contestants will compete for the winners’ title on November 8 while

cruising on-board ‘The Pontoon’, Sydney’s floating glass ballroom.

There are expected to be 150 invited guests at the event including singer/songwriter

Hayley Sales.  Celebrity mixologist Manuel Terron will be the MC, and former

Olympic Gold Medalist Kieren Perkins will be on the final judging panel.

The winner of the Australian competition will be given $2000 in cash and an all

expenses paid trip to Trinidad to compete in the third Angostura Global Cocktail

Challenge against nine other nations.  However, it will be tough to get there as the

2007 World Champion, Marco Nunes of Queensland, will be amongst the 20

finalists.

Allan Shearer, CEO of Angostura distributor for Australia, island2island says he looks

forward to seeing the nation’s best bartenders fight for the winner’s title.

“island2island is proud to be holding an event that supports what is no longer just a

job, but an art form,” Allan says.

All 20 finalists will be on board the cruise. The final five will be announced at the

beginning of the event after they have competed in heats during the day.

Part of the evening will take on a serious note when cocktails are served in memory

of former Ivy bartender, the late Pierre Fajloun who died one day after registering

for the competition.
