IGA Supermarkets Launch Christmas Club
To Help Shoppers Save For Christmas
Australias largest network of supermarkets IGA has launched a Christmas Club savings plan for
shoppers in time for Christmas 2010, allowing them to enjoy the festive season without financial
stress.
The launch of the IGA Christmas Club, aims to get an edge over its competitors, shake up the
Christmas hamper market and make it easier for shoppers to save money ahead of Christmas 2010
and onwards in any of IGAs 1,278 supermarkets across Australia.
Unlike other Christmas hamper companies on the market, IGA Christmas Club allows members to
save towards the purchase of products they need, including the freedom to spend their saved funds
on all products in store, including groceries, fresh produce, seafood and liquor as well as all lines on
promotion.
Andrew Divaris, National Marketing GM for IGA said, Our IGA Christmas Club makes it easier for
shoppers to save and prepare for Christmas, without tying themselves down to costly limited
brochure offers, which are often for products they dont want or need.
Christmas Club members have a wide choice of products to spend their funds on and rewards of
being able to access a far wider range of product than through a catalogue. There is nothing like this
on the market and we expect that our customers will be very excited about it, he added.
Operating on the principle of set and forget, IGAs new IGA Christmas Club is free for shoppers to
join and gives members the flexibility to put aside a small amount of money each week, fortnight or
month to save for the most expensive time of year for the vast majority of Australian families the
Christmas holiday season.
Direct debits from as little as $7 a week accumulate over a 12-month period and are returned to
them in the form of a Christmas gift card to be spent at an IGA supermarket of their choice.
To celebrate the launch of this exciting new program, IGA is giving the first 2,000 members who sign-
up to become an IGA Christmas Club member $50 worth of credit to their debit account.
Families looking to sign up for the Christmas Club will need to visit their local participating IGA Store
or visit the IGA website and follow the prompts. Applicants will simply be asked to nominate
payments and direct debit details.
In November 2010, the money is given back all members in the form of a Christmas gift card- which
will contribute to hassle and stress free Christmas shopping.
