The Largest Private Collection of Wine Ever Offered At Auction In Australia Goes Under The Hammer

One of Australia's most significant and valuable private wine collections, valued in excess of $1 million, may be facing imminent consumption when it goes on sale tomorrow.

The catalogue, which comprises many of the world's greatest, rarest and important wines including the extremely rare 1947 Domaine Bourillon-Dorleans Moelleux Vouvray and 1985 Domaine Henri Jayer Beaumonts, Vosne-Romanee is expected to generate enormous interest across the fine wine world, but whether the new owners of these wines choose to cellar it or drink it is anybodies guess.

Established by a single collector with over 40 years of dedication to the finest wine regions in the world, the first part of this collection of over 4800 lots was sold at the end of 2009, the second part of the collection, over 2500 lots, will be sold when the Langton's online auction closes at 6pm on Tuesday, 23 November 2010.

"The sheer quality, range of wines and scale of this single cellar is exceptional," says Langton's Founder and General Manager, Stewart Langton.

"This is the largest private collection of wine ever offered at auction in Australia. I cannot imagine an opportunity such as this will come around again for a very long time if at all.

"It reflects a single minded pursuit for the best wines of the world, with almost every important wine post code represented including; Chateau Lafite Rothschild (Pauillac, Bordeaux), Leroy (Vosne Romanee, Burgundy), Etienne Guigal (Rhone), Zind Humbrecht (Alsace), Gaja (Piedmonte), Vega Sicilia (Ribera del Duero), Te Mata Estate (Hawkes Bay, New Zealand) and Wendouree (Clare Valley, South Australia).

The catalogue is a remarkable narrative of wine collecting over the last forty years; an early interest in Australian red wine, a fascination with Bordeaux and a heartfelt connection with Burgundy in later life. This is the finest collection of Burgundy ever seen in Australia. Along the way, our collector has discovered the extraordinary wines of Vega Sicilia, Antonio Gaja, Domaine Tempier, Dienhard and Dr Loosen among others," Mr Langton said.

This important and unique wine auction represents an ideal opportunity for buyers to add wines of great quality and provenance to their own cellars. The sale comprises a wide range of cellaring and ready-to-drink wines at estimates and lot-sizes to suit every budget.

Purchasers can be assured that all wines for sale have received the utmost level of care under their prior ownership, with all wines stored in private state-of-the-art refrigerated/ humidified cellars and held at a constant 12 degrees Celsius since purchase.
