Aboriginal Medical Services recognised by SA Government
Dr Mick Adams, chair of NACCHO*, the national peak body for Aboriginal medical
services has congratulated both the South Australian Government and Mr John
Singer, chair of the peak Aboriginal Health Council of SA (AHCSA), on his
appointment to the South Australian Health Performance Council.
Mr Singers appointment is due recognition by the South Australian government of
the importance of having representation of the Aboriginal community controlled
health service sector on influential government bodies like the SA Health
Performance Council overseeing the operation of the health system Dr Adams said.
Involvement of representatives of the Aboriginal community controlled health service
sector in providing independent and timely advice to government on primary health
care is a important step forward in implementing the national statement of intent** to
close the Aboriginal life expectancy gap.
Mr John Singer brings a wealth of experience to the South Australian Health
Performance Council from his involvement as chair of the Aboriginal Health Council
of SA and on the board of NACCHO and in the field experience as a health worker in
Aboriginal health services in South Australia and as an administrator in health
services in South Australia and the Northern Territory.
Mr Singer is currently Director of the Nganampa Health Council, the largest
Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service in remote Australia, covering the
Anangu, Pitjantjatjara and Yankunyatjara (APY) Lands in the far north west of South
Australia Dr Adams said.
