CORRECTION: Asia Pacific Business Leaders to meet in Melbourne on 9 12 February

Members of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC), an independent body created by APEC Leaders to provide robust advice on matters of concern to the business community in the Asia Pacific region, are to meet in Melbourne on 9 12 February. ABAC is the sole non-government entity that has an official role in APEC with the members meeting privately with the APEC Leaders.

The Australian members of ABAC are Mark Johnson, Chairman AGL, Lindsay Fox, Founder & Director Linfox and John Denton, Partner & CEO, Corrs Chambers and Westgarth.

The meeting in Melbourne being the first meeting for 2010. Members will review issues of importance to business and set the work program for the year. Key matters on the agenda are:

*further work to secure credible movement on steps to promote regional economic integration including exploring options to encompass liberalisation of services, investments and behindthe- border issues;

*attention to issues impacting on energy security;

*continued support for measures for trade facilitation;

*enhancement of measures to strengthen capital markets in the region; and,

*focus on need for action on food security.

In addition to attending the ABAC meeting, on Tuesday 9th members will also participate in a showcasing of the latest safety and environmental technologies available to the heavy vehicle industry hosted by Lindsay Fox at the Linfox-owned Australian Automotive Research Centre at Anglesea, Victoria. Mr Fox is leading an ABAC project seeking to deliver greater engagement between APEC economies on transport reform. The project identifies practical and regulatory hurdles to improve the flow of goods between economies and encourage the fast tracking of new and emerging safety and environmental technologies for heavy vehicles.
