"An Abstract Ocean" unveiled at Hillarys' Marine Discovery Centre

Spring and summer will bring a bonus for visitors to the Naturaliste Marine Discovery Centre at
Hillarys a special interactive exhibition of stunning underwater photography.

Moments of amazing marine life and landscapes have been frozen in time for all to share.

An Abstract Ocean is the latest exhibition of award-winning Western Australian-based
photographer Shannon Conway.

Marine Discovery Centre Manager Bruce Mackay said Mr Conway's past exhibitions had
attracted a lot of interest.

"Shannon often spends a long time capturing specific underwater images he wants and has often
made multiple dives to record the perfect picture," Mr Mackay said.

"He is an award-winning photographer, who manages to find extraordinary perspectives of
marine life, which often leave you wondering what you are looking at, but they can also keep
you spell bound at the contours, colours and creativity of the ocean environment."

Mr Mackay said the Abstract Ocean exhibition was free to view between 1 November 2010 and
31 January 2011, for visitors to the foyer of the Naturaliste Marine Discovery Centre on the
northern side of the Hillarys boat ramp car park.

"Visitors are also welcome to explore the display hall of the Marine Discovery Centre; for just
$7 per adult, $5 for a student or concession ticket, $4 for children aged 4 to 15 or $15 for a
family (of up to 2 adults and 4 children)," he said.

"The Marine Discovery Centre is part of the Department of Fisheries' education and awareness
programs to share knowledge about WA's marine environment.

"We invite people to pop in for a look at the wonderful underwater photography of Shannon
Conway for free in the foyer and have some fun with the interactive nature of the display and the
associated competition to test your knowledge on the marine world."

More information about the Naturaliste Marine Discovery Centre and the Abstract Ocean
exhibition is available online at www.nmdc.com.au.

The NMDC is open Monday to Friday between 10am and 4pm, but closed on public holidays.
