Exhibition takes on a vision of the peripheral
Where is the periphery? What happens at the edges of our vision, our bodies and
our surroundings? Five artists respond to these questions in Peripheral, a new
exhibition opening today at RMIT Universitys Project Space/Spare Room Gallery.
Peripheral refers to an active space of thought, outside of the expected, curator
Lisa Byrne said. These works heighten the viewers awareness of the incidental
relationships that exist through contemplation and musings about our selves, and
our environment.
The five artists Utako Shindo,
Larissa Linnell, James Geurts,
Daniel Armstrong and George
Poonkhin Khut use installation,
video, sound and photography to
question how we use our senses
to interpret the world around us.
These artists challenge the
viewer to contemplate what
happens in their own periphery
and awakens our interest in the
often overlooked experiences of
our environment.
