Four Attempts at Disguise
Four photomedia artists Clare Rae, Jon Riethmuller, Unn-Therese Dida Sundet and
Daisy Watkins-Harvey come together as graduating students of RMIT Universitys
School of Art in the exhibition, Four Attempts at Disguise.
Memory, identity and desire serve as both a catalyst for their work and as the link
between them.
Daisy Watkins-Harvey's interest lies in both the driving force behind ones desire to
preserve personal histories, and the objects, rituals, or relics onto which they are
projected. The personal archive is a means by which memories are accumulated, stored
and recovered.
Working similarly with accumulated memory, Unn-Therese Dida Sundet constructs
visual borderlands out of public or universal iconography and narratives. His work is
focused on the juxtapositions that embody both reality and fantasy within our cultural.
Jon Riethmullers project centres
on the construction of personal
and public male identity. In
particular, Jon looks at how
individual men define themselves
and their masculinity.
In contrast, Clare Raes
photomedia practice explores
her own personal experience
as a woman. By using herself
as the subject of the images,
she seeks to portray a lived
experience through use of the
body.
The artists are graduating
students of RMITs Bachelor of
Arts (Fine Art) Honours program.
