LISA ANDERSON

TWO MAJOR SYDNEY EXHIBITIONS in AUGUST/ SEPTEMBER 09

ATTLA (snow that makes pictures as it falls) – Customs House – August 23 – September 27

PARIS ANGELS – David Rex-Livingston Art Dealer – August 8 to September 6

Artist Lisa Anderson has two major exhibitions in Sydney throughout August/September that

reflect on her experiences as artist in residence in the High Arctic and draw attention to

climate change and its effects on both natural and built environments.

ATTLA (snow that makes pictures as it falls) is a multi-layered exhibition at Customs House

in Sydney from August 23 – September 27.  The work will extend her exploration of the hard

edges of climate change in the High Arctic and disappearing lifestyles and landscapes of

these isolated and extraordinary places.   Lisa spent six weeks in the High Arctic in 2007 as

artist in residence on a Russian ice breaker.

ATTLA (snow that makes pictures as it falls)

will use images, video and sound works to highlight concerns and increase understanding

about what changing weather patterns can mean both to our own community, as well as

fragile environments such as the Arctic. The exhibition will include sculptural models of

icebergs with light and image projections, video installations and soundscapes,

photographic-based artworks, and a wi-fi video and sound installation of a polar bear on an

ice flo to be accessed by audiences via mobile phone or MP 3 player.

The exhibition Paris Angels at David Rex-Livingston Art Dealer (August 8 – September 6) is

a series of paintings based on Lisa’s photography taken during her recent residency at the

Cite Internationale des Arts in Paris.  “I was fortunate enough to return to Paris for 3 months

to contemplate a range of issues around light and climate change effects on the built

environment.  And most importantly it gave me another chance to fall in love with the city’s

stone angels all over again.  The circumstances of the world and the environment have

inspired much of my art and this work explores the issue of our own mortality through the

detrition of the Angels of Paris,” Lisa says.
