Media Preview of 'Culture Warriors: National Indigenous Art Triennial' to show at the Gallery of Modern Art from February 14 to May 10, 2009.

*The exhibition features more than 90 works created in the past four years by 30 leading Indigenous Australian artists from every state and territory, including 10 Queensland artists.

*GoMA is the fourth venue to show this inaugural triennial exhibition developed by the National Gallery of Australia (NGA), following its exhibition in Canberra, Adelaide and Perth.

*Taking the recent 'Culture Wars' or 'History Wars' waged over interpretations of the Indigenous history/culture of Australia as a starting point, the exhibition showcases works by artists using different genres and media including large-scale paintings on canvas and bark, textiles and weaving, as well as photo media and installations.

PICTURE OPPORTUNITIES:

*Queensland artists Richard Bell and Gordon Hookey and their art works featured in the exhibition.

*A range of visually spectacular works including:

*Richard Bell's large scale painting 'Australian Art it's an Aboriginal thing' which revisits his 2003 Telstra NATSIAA Award winning work 'Scientia E Metaphysica (Bell's Theorem)' aka 'Aboriginal Art it's a white thing'.

*Dennis Nona's incredible bronze and pearlshell sculpture of a full-sized crocodile carrying a spirit figure on its back.

*Doreen Nakamarra's large-scale optical painting depicting the ridges of shifting sands within her desert country.
