Poster showcase reveals new trends in graphic design
Innovative designs by RMIT University students and researchers will feature in a
new exhibition of print and digital posters opening this month at Melbourne
Museum, putting the future of graphic design under the spotlight.
New Views 2 brings together work from 40 international graphic design
practitioners from eight countries including the UK, US, France and Singapore.
Exhibition organiser, Laurene Vaughan, said the artists featuring in the show
addressed a variety of key issues such as design and the environment, social
responsibility, new technologies and education.
These works have been created using a range of traditional and cutting-edge
techniques including photography, found object constructions, illustrations, collage,
and typographic forms, Ms Vaughan, Director of Research and Innovation in
RMITs School of Applied Communication, said.
The exhibition includes physical and digital work from students, emerging artists
and some of the top names in graphic design.
The variety and range of work on show will surprise and inspire graphic design
students, professionals and the general public.
Students receive free admission to the exhibition, which runs from 15 November to
15 February.
New Views 2 is a collaboration between RMITs School of Applied Communication,
the RMIT Design Research Institute, the London College of Communication and
the research unit for Information Environments, University of the Arts, London.
The result of an international call for posters, the designs on display at Melbourne
Museum were first seen in conjunction with the New Views 2 symposium held in
London this year, organised by RMIT and the London College of Communication.
Media note: high-quality images of a selection of the posters are available.
