Whats Eating You?
South Australian artist Andrea Przygonski considers the world of the petri dish
through her hanging installations in this stunning exhibition at RMIT Universitys
Project Space/Spare Room Gallery.
Diseases and pathogens tear through society; todays swine flu is yesterdays bird
flu. Moulds, viruses, bacteria and a thousand other things imperceptible to the eye
are hyper-realised in our daily routines. We wash our hands regularly. We brush our
teeth in the morning and at night.
I have reflected upon organisms within the
microcosm that we know about yet find
distasteful, repulsive or even scary, Ms
Przygonski said.
These become metaphors for the things we
dont like to talk about or dont want to
confront in our own lives, metaphors for our
reluctance to accept anything other than what
we know and can see.
