KOOKABURRA LAUNCHES IN MELBOURNE


Kookaburra: The National Musical Theatre Company is officially launching in Melbourne with

a GALA CONCERT celebrating the magic of musical theatre on September 8, 2008.


This one-off gala event will officially launch Australia’s only national, not-for-profit musical

theatre company in Melbourne and stars such stellar Australian performers as Julie Anthony

A.M. O.B.E., Rhonda Burchmore, Peter Cousens, Helen Dallimore, Lucy Durack, David

Harris, Nancye Hayes, Bert LaBonte, Silvie Paladino, Marina Prior, Matthew Robinson,

Wayne Scott Kermond, VCA - Music TheatreÉto name a few.


It coincides with Kookaburra’s production of Tell Me On A Sunday, playing at Her Majesty’s

Theatre in Melbourne from 2-14 September Ð the first Kookaburra production to play outside

NSW.


“Our expansion to Melbourne is a major step for Kookaburra. It shows, after only two years of

operation, our commitment to becoming Australia’s permanent, national musical theatre arts

company,” said Peter Cousens, Founder, CEO & Artistic Director, Kookaburra: The National

Musical Theatre Company


Performers will come together to perform songs from musicals that have graced Australian

stages over the past 40 years.


“We are delighted to be able to showcase, in one great night, the breadth of talent we have right

here in Australia and celebrate this great art form.” Cousens said.


Money raised will go towards supporting Kookaburra - a not-for-profit arts company - to

educate, engage and entertain all Australians and fund its ancillary community initiatives:

Kookaburra Kids, The Nest and Kookaburra Touring. 


Kookaburra Kids latest initiative, the Discover the Theatre program, has already taken over 40

kids from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds to the theatre for the very first time Ð

for many, a life-changing experience. Now, Melbourne-based productions will be added to that

list. 


Tickets to Kookaburra’s GALA Concert go on sale nationally on Monday.
