Magazine Covers Battle It Out For Top Spot

SYDNEY, Australia, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire-AsiaNet/ --

NZ rugby player, Sonny Bill Williams, stares out the competition while Shrek and

Donkey smile at you from the cover of Prime Times.

A glamourous Susan Sarandon and a suave looking Dan Carter battle it out for Best

Lifestyle Cover, and in an unusual twist, a hen has a fighting chance to come out on

top in a fight with a falcon!

These are just some of the images that are in the running to win the Best Magazine

Cover in their respective categories, plus the coveted Magazine Cover of the Year

Award in this year's inaugural 2010 consumer awards, The Maggies.

The Awards, initiated by New Zealand's leading online magazine subscription

newsagent iSUBSCRiBE, and sponsored by New Zealand Post, today announced the

shortlist. This national poll celebrates and awards the best covers of the past year.

A panel of industry heavyweights gathered to select a shortlist of 5 covers per

category from the nominated entries. This panel included:

. Andrew Burge, CEO of iSUBSCRiBE

. Lindsey Dawson, creator of three major women's titles in New Zealand More, Grace

& Next and winner of the MPA Lifetime Achievement Award 2009

. Peter Fenton, Chief Executive Postal Services of New Zealand Post

. Sharon Grace, books and magazines designer

. Gideon Keith, Creative Director of Seven Ltd

. John McClintock, Management Executive Director of the MPA & Chair of the judging

panel

. Debra Millar, former Group Publisher of ACP Magazines

. Paula Ryan, founder of Fashion Quarterly and Simply You and winner of the MPA

Lifetime Achievement Award 2010

The general public will now vote for their favourite covers over the next five

weeks as the voting goes live at www.themaggies.co.nz

Andrew Burge, CEO of iSUBSCRiBE, who initiated the annual awards, said, "I am

absolutely thrilled with the response from publishers in this, our first year of The

Maggies. The range is fantastic, and the calibre absolutely second to none. Whilst the

competition was extremely tough, in judging the shortlist I think we've come up with a

really good selection and it'll be fascinating to know what the public make of it."

The overall winner and individual category winners will be announced late October

2010.

The public will be incentivised to vote for their favourite magazine cover with a

reward of a $5 iSUBSCRiBE gift voucher.  The voucher may be redeemed against

iSUBSCRiBE's entire range of over 200 magazine subscriptions. In addition, $1 from

every subscription sold using the iSUBSCRiBE gift vouchers will be donated by

iSUBSCRiBE to children's charity, Cure Kids.
