Special Screening in Kununurra of Baz Luhrmann's Movie Epic "Australia" Confirmed For 18th November

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

6th November, 2008

Today, Twentieth Century Fox Film Distributors announced that a special community screening of Baz Luhrmann's epic Australia will take place on Tuesday 18th November in Kununurra, at the Kununurra Picture Gardens.

Marcos Oliveira, Managing Director of 20th Century Fox Australia, said "It was always an ambitious plan to stage simultaneous screening events in the four principal shooting locations for the film, and having addressed the logistical challenges over the last week, we are delighted to be able to finally confirm that the people of Kununurra will join Darwin, Bowen and Sydney in celebrating this very important film on the 18th November."

Recognizing the integral role that The Kimberley, both its land and its people, play in the film, 20th Century Fox and Bazmark Film are thrilled that the community, including the local Elders and Traditional Owners, will be among the first in the world to see "Australia".

Peter Stubbs, CEO Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley, welcomed the news, saying "we are very grateful that we have been included in the plans to celebrate the launch of the movie and look forward to sharing the film with the people of East Kimberley."

The movie is launching in cinemas across the country on 26th November.

AUSTRALIA is an epic and romantic action adventure, set in this country on the brink of World War II. When an English aristocrat (NICOLE KIDMAN) travels to our faraway continent, she meets rough-hewn cattle drover (HUGH JACKMAN) and an enchanting Aboriginal child (BRANDON WALTERS). This unlikely trio join forces to drive a herd of cattle on a transforming journey across hundreds of miles of the world's most beautiful yet unforgiving terrain, only to face the bombing of the city of Darwin by the Japanese forces that attacked Pearl Harbor. With his new film, director Baz Luhrmann is painting on a vast canvas, creating a cinematic experience that brings together romance, drama, adventure and spectacle.
