HOLLYWOOD HITS FOR AUSSIE DESIGNER
Fashion designer Dana Mathers has been soaring with the stars in Hollywood.
The Perth-based designer’s “Fame” collection lived up to its name as screen
legend Jane Seymour quickly snapped up a Mathers’ “Lola” gown for an A-list
Golden Globes party attended by Tom Cruise and Julianne Moore.
The “Lola” is a cobalt blue layered silk chiffon cocktail dress highlighted by
Swarovski beading under the bustline, punctuated by an elegant satin bow.
“Jane was so sweet to work with. She loved the Lola and is looking at my
Bella for a future event,” Mathers said.
The “Lola” in purple also proved a hit with another rising star Alicia Witt
(Vanilla Sky, Urban Legend) who wore it on the popular Craig Ferguson chat
show.
Other stars to admire the Mathers’ collection included Maggie Grace (Taken)
and Cote de Pablo (CSI Miami). Mathers also met with stylists representing
many other stars.
“My statement Cassie gown – my biggest seller in the US and Australia – was
in serious contention for the Grammies. That would have been a real thrill –
but I’ll be back next year,” she said.

Mathers went onto New York to showcase her label at G’Day USA (NY) as
the headline event brand among 10 selected Australian labels.
The Hollywood and New York exposure capped an amazing year for Mathers
who is now stocked by more than 42 US retailers and projects that to top 200
by the end of 2010.
“It’s the old story of taking a lifetime to become an overnight success. I’ve
been designing for 20 years and have had my own retail store for 15 years,”
Mathers said
“I felt that I had matured sufficiently as a designer and as a business person
to take my point of view to the biggest market in the world,” she said.
“I’ve been overwhelmed by the response – I’ve got US retailers besieging me
for re-orders and girls throughout the US filling my email with pleas for more
Cassie dresses.”
Mathers destination store in Perth is one of the hottest 360 degree retail
experiences in WA – and a magnet for girls looking for that “it” gown.
“My philosophy as a designer is that it is all about the fit. My philosophy as a
business person is that it is all about giving my customers an entertainment
experience. Every girl should have the chance to bask in the glow of the red
carpet,” she said.
