No Sweat Shop label Presents New Model Beauty Queen & Melbourne Textile

Collective’s

‘Refabricated’ Exhibition & Salon Show

On Tuesday 17 March 2009, the ‘No Sweat Shop label’ will present ‘Refabricated’ a salon show and exhibition promoting

ethical fashion labels and emerging local designers as part of L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival’s Cultural Program

‘presented by Living Creatively’.

The exhibit will commence at New Model Beauty Queen’s (NMBQ) boutique store, 57 Smith Street Fitzroy, and continue

along the street with a salon show. Featuring ‘No Sweat Shop label’ accredited companies such as NMBQ, Qualitops

and Rise-Up.

The Program Co-ordinator of the ‘No Sweat Shop label’, Tommy Clarke, said the focus of the event on small-scale local

operations was very timely.

“I think in the current climate, we might see a renewed focus on smaller and local labels with consumers looking for more

personalised garments with a local connection. By making the most of initiatives like the No Sweat Shop label

accreditation system, local fashion labels and boutiques can also provide an ethical guarantee to consumers which many

of the off-shore producers simply cannot do,” Mr Clarke said.

Dale Cornell the owner of NMBQ, a No Sweat Shop label accredited manufacturer, has recently formed the Melbourne

Textile Collective with hand-printed textile and design studio, Ink & Spindle, to create a network of emerging designers,

to share information about ethical, local, and bespoke production.

“The vision for this network is committed to bringing together local designers in order to create a more cooperative

approach to production, while maintaining a commitment to the local and ethical structure,” Mr Cornell said.

Displaying a prominent line-up of ‘No Sweat Shop label’ accredited fashion houses and representing hand-printed

fashion and textile-based works, ‘Refabricated’ will exhibit tomorrow’s emerging talent of innovative designs and creative

fashion concepts. The salon show will illustrate some of the local talent NMBQ produces for including Soul, Killer Lover

and Moneypenny, demonstrating that ethical apparel has never been so stylish.

‘Refabricated’ an event presented by the ‘No Sweat Shop label’, inspired by NMBQ’s launch of The Melbourne Textile

Collective. The evening will bring entertainment, inspiration from local talent and promote the importance of ethical

Australian production.
