MEDIA RELEASE

October 19, 2010

Australian, James Pedrazinni crowned

Gloria Jean’s Coffees 2010 International Barista Champion

Fighting off competition from talented baristas from all over the world, James Pedrazinni from

Gloria Jean’s Coffees Caloundra store has taken home the coveted Gloria Jean’s Coffees 2010

International Barista Champion title.

The final of the Championship took place this month at the brand’s Global Convention at

Disneyland, Los Angeles, attended by over 400 Gloria Jean’s Coffees Franchise Partners, Master

Franchise Partners and Store Managers from around the world. During the two hour final, the

six baristas each served the judges four espressos, four lattes and four signature beverages - a

total of 12 drinks during a period of 15 minutes or less. All drinks were prepared using Gloria

Jean’s Coffees proprietary espresso blend.

The award recognises the best Barista from over 1,000 coffee houses globally. James reached

the finals after winning Queensland regional and Australian National Championships earlier in

the year.

Melissa Anderson, Gloria Jean’s Coffees Group Learning and Development Manager and one of

the judges of the Championship said: “As judges, we were looking for a champion who not only

has a mastery of technical skills, craftsmanship and service skills but is also passionate about

the barista profession and serves as a role model and a source of inspiration for others.”

According to James, “the competition this year was very good and it’s great to see the high

caliber of baristas that are representing the brand worldwide. This was my first year competing

in the Gloria Jean’s Coffees Barista Championship; thanks to a great support team working with

me I learnt very quickly and I’m very proud to be representing Gloria Jeans coffees as the

International Barista Champion.”

Melissa Anderson added: “Making an excellent cup of coffee takes real talent. At Gloria Jean’s

Coffees our commitment to quality is delivered in our coffee houses by our highly skilled

baristas, who are trained in the art of handcrafting the perfect coffee. This competition

showcases the dedication, knowledge and passion of our baristas to create the ultimate coffee

experience.”
