Benchmarking Breakthrough For Winemakers

Adelaide, Tuesday July 7 2009:

Next generation web-based technology is giving wine companies the know-how to

reduce costs, reduce waste and improve their business performance.

Winery Benchmarker, an online wine production benchmarking tool, has been

developed by wine industry consultancy Provisor. Now available online by

subscription, it introduces world-leading technology to Australia’s wine sector for the

first time.

Winery Benchmarker is a unique web-based tool that wineries can use to compare

their operation’s performance against industry benchmarks and averages,” said Dr

Darren Oemcke, Provisor CEO.

“It shows wineries where to find the ‘low-hanging fruit’ in their production and

management systems, so they can take action to cut costs, improve efficiency and

compete effectively. It is easy to use, intuitive and, being web-based makes it simple

to deliver across the country.”

Winery Benchmarker has taken 12 months to develop in consultation with 25

Australian wineries ranging from small producers to multi-national exporters,

including Zilzie Wines in the Sunraysia, Grant Burge Wines in the Barossa and

Sirromet in Queensland.

The interactive tool gives wineries the capability to compare themselves against

companies of the same size, by region or by country and benchmark operations

against red or white, premium or commercial wines.

“Benchmarking is used successfully in many industries, throughout the world, and

has a huge amount to offer the Australian wine sector, as it navigates the current

business climate. The Winery Benchmarker service simply makes benchmarking

accessible,” said Dr Oemcke.

“It gives real answers to real problems. It shows wineries how they perform against

best-in-class, so they can identify areas for improvement in efficiency as well as

profitability.”

Winery Benchmarker is also an example of Australian wineries working

collaboratively to compare and improve their performance both nationally and

internationally.”
