Birriga’s Cafe Strikes 10 And are going to Bowl you over with a Celebration. Fundraising
for The Sydney Children ‘s Hospital and The Sunrise Village Orphanage
The event will be held at Easts Rugby Union Club Bellevue Hill on Friday 30th Oct 09 @ 7.00pm Hosted by the
beautiful Susie Elelman.
Ten years ago Birriga Road, the long winding passage between Bellevue Hill and Bondi Beach, gave birth to its first
and only cafe, aptly named ‘Birriga’s’. Bringing some well deserved life to the street, Birriga’s is designed to
provide a community based cafe that belongs to the locals. Originally a very run down corner shop, Birriga’s
underwent a total transformation to emerge as a vibrant cafe-grocer with something for everyone. Whether you
want to relax over a cup of coffee, settle into a hearty breakfast, treat yourself to a delicious slice of homemade
cake or just pop in for a few groceries, Birriga’s is the place for you.
Local actor Geoff Weston is the brains and brawn behind the business ,making Birriga’s an extension of his home,
offering friendly service in an inviting environment. Moreover Birriga’s Cafe prides itself on the fact that it is one of
the very few cafes that makes most of its products on the premise. Geoff’s renown mouth watering lemon tarts,
delicious carrot cake, his ‘to-die-for’ friands along with the best homemade burgers – and all at great prices – keep
the regulars coming back and back for more. This all bears testament to Geoff’s wealth of experience in the
hospitality industry having run a very successful catering business for the past 20 years.
Doubling his life as an actor/cafe proprietor, Geoff is a very busy and versatile person. Ten years ago whilst setting
up the cafe (with a little help from his friends), he was heading up “The Australian Entertainment ‘MO’ Awards”
and holds the title as the longest serving consecutive Executive Director in the charity’s 35 year history. Now very
well established in the local community Geoff spends his time running the cafe, writing comedy scripts with his
writing partner Ann Petrou and moreover any spare minutes are devoted to fundraising for charity. This has
included hosting fundraising events for the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation, Geraldine Cox’s Sunrise
Villages in Cambodia, Motor Nuerone Disease, Cancer Research , to name but a few.
This year the emphasis is no different and although the celebrations are in honour of Birriga’s reaching a ten year
milestone, the main purpose of Birriga’s Birthday Party is to raise funds for the Sydney Children’s Hospital
Foundation and the Sunrise Village Orphanages. Geoff is positive that once again his loyal customers, long term
suppliers and friends will rise to the occasion and make this a really special occasion for charity.
