It's Official! NSW Top State For Gourmet Experiences

NSW trumped the rest of the nation in the prestigious 100 Greatest Australian
Gourmet Experiences, published by Australian Traveller Magazine today.

More than one third of Australia's best gourmet experiences are in NSW, according to a panel of food experts. Sydney is the clear winner with 21 Great Gourmet Experiences

The highest rating NSW experience was the "Bulgari of Butchers", Victor Churchill in Woollahra, named second Greatest Australian Gourmet Experience.

Australian Traveller editor Greg Barton says: "In the land of plenty, NSW is the most bountiful state with some fabulous dining experiences in all regions and equally outstanding providores like Victor Churchill's, Simon Johnson, Herbie's Spices and Li-Sun Exotic Mushrooms."

Top Sydney restaurants Quay and Tetsuya's were the other two NSW representatives in the Top 10. Sydney-based chef Neil Perry was the most prolific restaurateur with three entries in the Top 100: Rockpool, Rockpool Bar & Grill and Spice Temple.

Orange was the leading NSW region with three local entries: Tonic Restaurant, Orange Food Week and Mandagery Creek Farmed Venison.

Methodology
A panel of food experts including Matt Moran, Jacques Reymond, Maggie Beer, Simon Johnson, Matthew Evans, Alla Wolf-Tasker and Michael Ryan decided the Top 100 Gourmet Experiences. The panellists were presented with a shortlist of 300 experiences and asked: "On a scale of 1- 10, how strongly would you like to experience the nomination and/or would you advise a friend to experience it?" The answers were tabulated and the Top 100 Gourmet Experiences revealed.

Editor Greg Barton is available for interview. The complete 100 Gourmet list is available at www.australiantraveller.com (From March 24 2010)
