For Australia Day 2010

It’s official – Australians love to celebrate

Australians love to celebrate and will find any reason according to a recently conducted

“Find A Reason” survey by Hardys Sir James.

While 100 per cent of the 4562 respondents celebrated birthdays, results found

Australians will celebrate almost anything with the second most popular occasion being

‘get togethers with friends’, rating higher than anniversaries, engagements and weddings.

The top ten occasions that respondents celebrated were:

Birthdays

100%

Get together with friends

83.8%

Anniversaries

77.9%

Holiday seasons

76.3%

Wedding/engagements

75.1%

Valentine’s Day

62.3%

New job

58.7%

Job promotion

56.5%

No reason, any time is a good time

51.8%

Because it’s summer

48.1%

“The results confirmed what we always knew, that Australians can always find a reason

to celebrate.  In fact of those surveyed, more than half (52%) didn’t need a specific

occasion, nominating any time as a good time, while nearly half (46 %) said the end of

the week constituted a celebration,” said Nicky Gameau, Hardys Senior Global Brand

Manager.

The survey also found sparkling wine was the beverage of choice for celebrations with

the significant majority of respondents (78%) preferring to celebrate with a glass of good

sparkling wine over table wine, cocktails or something non-alcoholic.

According to Ms Gameau, “The warmer months are definitely the celebratory season,

with most sparkling brands achieving around half their sales in the months from October

to January.”
