Learn About Cheese From the Best

Young cheesemakers have the opportunity to build on their cheesemaking passion and learn new skills and specialty techniques with a once in a lifetime experience being offered through Dairy Australia.

Aimed at young Australians, the 2010 Australian Grand Dairy Awards Cheesemaking Scholarship provides an up and coming cheesemaker with a comprehensive training program.

Dairy Australia.s project manager Dr Mani Iyer said the scholarship is a chance to learn with some of the best from the Australia industry.

"Australian cheesemakers have built on international knowledge and expertise and combined it with cutting edge technology and some of the best fresh milk available to produce world class cheese.

"We have developed the scholarship program in conjunction with the leading cheese companies to ensure the scholarship recipient gets a unique and valuable experience to help develop their career in cheesemaking," Dr Iyer said.

The winner will participate in intensive cheesemaking tuition through the National Centre for Dairy Education Australia (NCDEA) during February to May 2010.

"This scholarship recipient will learn cheesemaking skills and be a part of an industry that is constantly growing and producing an ever increasing range of quality dairy products," Dr Iyer said.

The recipient will learn technical skills as well as being exposed to the latest in cheese production innovation at major cheese manufacturers.

The scholarship funds all tuition and relevant expenses including airfares, accommodation, meals and transfers so nominations are encouraged from all parts of Australia.

"We are very excited to offer this scholarship to one budding cheesemaker; helping to develop those with a passion for the dairy industry is very important to Dairy Australia. We also hope the tuition and practical training will help the recipient build valuable networks within the sector," Dr Iyer said.

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be between 18.30 years of age and a permanent resident or citizen of Australia. A panel will assess the applications and the recipient will be announced at the 2010 Australian Grand Dairy Awards in February.

The awards are supported by NCDEA, National Foods, Perfect Italiano, Murray Goulburn Cooperative limited, Warrnambool Cheese and Butter and La Casa Del Formaggio.
