Public and Private Sectors Join Forces in Promoting Premium Organic Agricultural

Products at THAIFEX—World of Food ASIA 2009

BANGKOK, Apr. 22 /InfoQuest-AsiaNet/ --

International visitors to the upcoming THAIFEX – World of food ASIA 2009 will delight in a

wondrous array of premium-quality organic agricultural products. Confidence is high in the

potential of Thai food entrepreneurs as they are geared up to demonstrate to international

buyers their capabilities and expertise in producing world-class organic agricultural products and

in making Thailand the exporter to beat in this field in the world marketplace.

Mr. Wanlop Pichpongsa, President, Thai Organic Trade Association, revealed that, “Our

association, together with, leading producers, collectors, processors and exporters of organic

products in Thailand, have worked together in organizing the showcase of premium-quality Thai

organic agricultural products at the THAIFEX 2009, organized by the outstanding partnership of

the Department of Export Promotion, the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the world-class

German event organizer Koelnmesse. The products to be on display have all been approved by

the International Federation of Organic Agricultural Movements or IFOAM, and they include rice,

fruit, spices, herbs, as well as, vegetables such as baby corn, sweet corn, coconut milk, honey

and frozen food, and even, beauty products. The event is scheduled to run from May 13th-17th,

2009, at the Challenger 2-3, IMPACT Muang Thong Thani.”

“It is noticeable that organic agricultural products actually have greater potential and

opportunities in penetrating into new markets, in comparison with other products. This is

because more and more consumers the world over are now turning to food products that are not

only healthy, but also eco-conscious. The global market for organic agricultural products is fast

growing at an average rate of 10% per year, and was estimated at over 60 Billion U.S. Dollars in

2008.” said Mr. Wanlop.

Mr. Wanlop further noted that, In contrast, the production capacity in producing and exporting

countries is struggling to meet the fast-growing demand. As a result, the current scenario indeed

presents great opportunities for Thailand, as one of the world’s major producers and exporters

of organic agricultural products, to prepare ourselves to capitalize on the increasing world

demand.
