Trasgaia 2006 Wins 2009 American Express Wine Awards
AMSTERDAM, Nov 11 /PRNewswire-AsiaNet/ --
The Trasgaia 2006 produced by the Italian Villa Trasqua wine estate is
the big winner of the American Express 2009 Tower Club Wine Awards in
Singapore. After the tasting of as many as 330 red wines from every
continent, the Trasgaia 2006 won three prestigious awards: 'Gold', 'Best of
the Best' and then in the end it was also elected 'Champion' of all
categories.
Trasgaia 2006 is a deep red wine from the Cabernet Sauvignon and
Sangiovese grapes, with a very concentrated nose and flavour. The awards in
Singapore mean another success for the Trasqua team as the Trasgaia 2005 also
received the 'Best in Class' title during the 2008 International Wine &
Spirits Competition in London. This title is held in high regard by vintners
the world over.
The Villa Trasqua wine estate is situated in the south-west of Chianti
Classico, the oldest and best part of the vast Chianti district. Villa
Trasqua covers 120 hectares (almost 300 acres), of which about a third is
planted with grapes. Trasqua has been producing wine since 1968. In 1998, the
estate came into the possession of Emil Nuesch AG in Switzerland, after which
35 hectares of the 55 hectares in total were newly planted. At the end of
2001, Villa Trasqua was transferred to the Dutch entrepreneur Hans Hulsbergen
who retained the Swiss winemaker Andreas Stossel. According to Stossel, good
wine is made in the vineyard. The final refinement takes place in the
underground, climatized cellar in large oak maturing casks and smaller oak
barrels of American and French oak wood.
Villa Trasqua is able to produce high quality wine thanks to its natural
conditions. Villa Trasqua is also called 'the umbrella of Chianti Classico'.
The estate is situated on a tableland with a constant gentle breeze. This
keeps the grapes dry and healthy and also prevents the temperature from
rising too high. The composition of the soil also plays a large role in the
quality of the wine. The estate is situated in an area of low hills with
mostly poor types of soil (stony, sandy with some clay, lime, loam, and
ferrous). All of this explains why the Trasgaia 2006 has won several awards.
The Trasgaia 2006 is available in Holland from Wijnhandel Van Krimpen in
Amsterdam and from the Twentsch Wijnhuis in Vasse. The wine can also be
tasted at the Wine Gallery in Ootmarsum and the 30 Les Genereux wine shops.
If you want to purchase the wine outside of Holland, please contact Villa
Trasqua directly and ask for a list of distributors worldwide.
