CRCAH congratulates Mick Gooda on new role
December 15 2009
The Australian Attorney-General, the Hon. Robert McLelland, has today
announced that the CEO of the Cooperative Research Centre for Aboriginal
Health (CRCAH), Mick Gooda, has been appointed to take over from Tom
Calma as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner
from 1 February 2010.
CRCAH Chair Pat Anderson extended her congratulations to Mick and paid
tribute to his hard work during the five years he has spent at the helm of the
organisation.
On behalf of the CRCAH Board I would like to publicly thank Mick for the
contribution he has made to our organisation since his appointment in
November 2004, Ms Anderson said.
Naturally we are sorry to see Mick go, but his new role is an important post
for the community as a whole and we believe Mick will be a passionate
advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Among the highlights of Micks tenure, Ms Anderson singled out his role in the
CRCAHs successful rebid earlier this year for a further four and a half years
of funding through the Australian Governments CRC Program, which will see
the CRCAH reborn as the CRC for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
Health (CRCATSIH) early in 2010.
Ms Anderson also paid tribute to Micks contribution in establishing the Lowitja
Institute for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Research, which will
be launched on 24 February 2010 with the intention of providing a permanent
body to fund Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health research beyond the
expiry of the CRCATSIHs term in June 2014.
We wish Mick well in his new role and look forward to working with him in the
future, Ms Anderson said.
