SYDNEY, Oct. 22 /Medianet International-AsiaNet/ --


   We have today 2 men who represent both traditions in Ireland's Military History which goes back 800 years.


   Myles Mooney 34th Battalion Irish Army Air Corp. Irish Defence Force 1957-1965. Myles was part of the Irish UN

Contingent in the Congo in 1961. Myles' Battalion relieved the 33rd Battalion who lost 9, killed in the ambush at

Niamba. In all, 6191 Irish Soldiers served in the Congo between 1960-1964 in which 26 were killed.


   The Irish commenced operations for the UN in Lebanon in 1958 and are currently rated 6th in the world for their

contribution to UN Peace Keeping.

Myles Mooney is better known as the lead singer with the Irish Drover's Folk Group.


   Paddy Armstrong Royal Ulster Rifles Army Cadet Corps family has a long tradition in the British Armed Forces.


   The Royal Ulster Rifles 2nd Battalion lost 180 men killed, captured and wounded in the Battle of the Imjin River in

April 1951 to numerically superior North Korean forces. 


   As they withdrew, their retreat was met by covering fire from men of the Kings Royal Irish Hussars.


   Paddy in the Founder/Coordinator of the United Irish Ex Services Association Australia.


   Myles is the Parade Commander.


   The Association marches on St Patrick's Day and ANZAC Day in Sydney yearly.


   We in Australia are very proud to have 2 men lay a wreath in memory of all Irishmen killed or wounded on behalf

of the United Nations.
