Moving the development agenda
forward in todays world
United Nations Development Programme Administrator Helen Clark spoke at the Lowy
Institute today about the challenges of tackling poverty, improving womens health and
preparing developing countries to adapt to the impact of climate change in the face of
increasing natural disasters and wars. She drew particular attention to the importance of
new contributions to development from China and from the private sector.
Miss Clark
also spoke of the need to strengthen governments in Afghanistan and Haiti to deal with
their serious predicaments.
