Successful China Sourcing Fairs in Mumbai lead to expansion in 2010
MUMBAI, Nov. 26 /PRNewswire-Asia-FirstCall-AsiaNet/ --
New events announced: Gifts & Premiums, Home Products, Bathroom Products and Security Products
Thousands of importers, retailers, wholesalers, distributors and other volume buyers converged on the
China Sourcing Fairs this past week in Mumbai, November 20-22, 2009. The Fairs, managed by Pico Event
Management under license from Global Sources (Nasdaq: GSOL), are the largest Greater China-products
events in India.
With the success of this year's Fairs, the events will expand in 2010. In addition to the China Sourcing Fairs:
Electronics & Components, Hardware & Building Materials and Auto Parts & Accessories, next year's Mumbai
schedule will include the launch of China Sourcing Fairs: Security Products, Gifts & Premiums, Home
Products and Bathroom Products. The Fairs are scheduled to be held again at the Bombay Exhibition Centre,
September 8-10, 2010.
More than 12,430 importers from all over India attended the Fairs last week. Representatives from some of
the country's top buying offices visited the Fairs, including Reliance, Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing, iBall,
Suzuki, eBay India, and Larsen & Toubro, one of India's largest construction conglomerates.
"This is a good show for finding China-made products," said Rajeev Shah of Korne Ltd. "We have been to
the shows in Hong Kong and China. But it is very convenient to meet such a wide selection of Chinese
manufacturers here in Mumbai."
"We are very pleased with the turnout at this year's event," said Tommy Wong, President of Global Sources
Exhibitions. "It is clear that Indian buyers are aggressively looking for new product designs and new suppliers
to stock their shelves -- and they are looking to Greater China manufacturers for those products."
In a recent survey conducted by Global Sources, India's purchasing professionals indicated they would be
buying more from mainland China. Eighty-seven percent of respondents plan to increase their purchasing from
mainland China in the coming year; 30 percent of respondents indicated they would increase the volume of
products they import from mainland China by as much as 20 to 40 percent compared to last year.
"The survey results map closely to India's overall economic development," said Bill Janeri, General
Manager at Global Sources. "As India's economy grows, there is increased demand for consumer goods. With
the expansion of the new China Sourcing Fairs next year in Mumbai, China's exporters will be better
positioned to deliver a wider range of products to India's importers."
