Put in a coma to fly home

Take 5 Latest issue 48 on sale Wednesday, November 18

Travel trauma

When British couple Lisa and Jason opted to return to the UK, it was easier

said than done – their son Thomas, who has Asperger’s syndrome, has a real

fear of flying. Once on the plane, Thomas made a run for it – and the family

had to disembark. Their next attempt was to sail, but Thomas was ready to

jump ship. Finally, the couple resorted to a medical extreme, and had Thomas

put into a coma for the long journey home.

Full circle

Ray was on a mission early in his life – to be a millionaire. He worked his way

up from selling fish as a kid to opening the first video shop in Victoria. The

world was his oyster until a $6-million deal fell through and he defaulted on

loans, leaving even his mum and dad homeless. It was the shake-up Ray

needed – money wasn’t everything. Now he lives a quieter life with his young

family, and tells Take 5 he’s never been happier.

What do you do when you run a roadside café and want to drum up business? Roz

and Rodney, of Cavendish, Victoria, put Australia’s biggest burger on the menu. Their

super-size recipe includes 1.5kg mince and 8 fried eggs – a 4kg burger that poses a

big challenge for locals and travellers alike. In three years no-one has managed to

meet it. Interviews available
