Artist, Philanthropist and Jazz Musician Albert Dadon AM to donate
Jazz Bell Statue to the Monash University School of Music Conservatorium on
Tuesday December 15, 2009 at 11.45am
What:
Albert Dadon, Chairman of the Australian Jazz Awards, accomplished jazz musician and
artist will be unveiling a 2.5 metre high bronze cast statue of the Jazz Bell Award that will be
presented to Monash University.
Albert Dadon has directed much of his passion towards the Australian jazz scene as Chairman of the
Melbourne International Jazz Festival from 2003 to 2005 and Artistic Director from 2006-2008. He
founded the Australian Jazz Awards (known as the Bell Awards) in 2003.
The "Jazz Bell Award" the 2009 Jazz Bell Sculpture, was designed by Albert, symbolizing excellence
and achievement in the art form.
Why:
The Australian Jazz Awards recognise and encourage excellence in the performance, creativity,
recording and presentation of jazz in Australia. In honour of one of the greats of Australian jazz
Graeme Bell MBE, AO the Australian Jazz Awards celebrates the achievements of new and
established artists in Australia and has grown in prestige over the years, becoming a label of
recognition among Australian jazz musicians.
